Finer things do exist, but they don’t look, taste and make you feel like this. Let’s celebrate the golf and explore the Whiskey Festival in Belfast’s most Unique Bohemian Bolthole Hotel.

Looking Back

There's a particular kind of magic that settles over Belfast when The Open comes to town — the city exhales, slows down, and remembers how to enjoy itself properly. The Harrison, that elegant bohemian bolthole tucked into the heart of Belfast city centre, felt like exactly the right place to lean into that feeling on the evening of 18th July 2025. By 9pm, the bar and lounge had filled with a crowd still buzzing from the day's play, ties loosened, voices warm, ready for something a little more considered than a pint at the clubhouse.

The evening opened with cocktails crafted by Belfast's award-winning duo Liquid Minds, whose creations were developed specifically for the 19th Hole concept — drinks that nodded to the drama of the course while remaining firmly rooted in the craft of the glass. These weren't afterthoughts; they were conversation starters, and they did their job well. From there, guests moved into the heart of the evening: a bespoke whiskey tasting curated and delivered by a whiskey expert, drawing on some of Ireland's finest, rarest, and most exclusive expressions. The selection rewarded those paying attention — drams that told stories of landscape, patience, and craft, the kind of seanchas that lingers long after the last drop. If you'd like to explore more of what Belfast's whiskey scene has to offer, our Whiskey Map is a good place to start.

Then came the terrace, and the smoke. A proper BBQ featuring Northern Irish grass-fed beef and carefully sourced local produce — the kind of food that earns its place alongside serious whiskey rather than competing with it. There was something deeply satisfying about standing on that terrace, dram in hand, the smell of good meat in the air and the hum of a city that had spent the day watching history being made at Portrush. The duchas of the place — that sense of belonging to a particular soil and moment — was palpable.

The 19th Hole ran across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Open weekend, and each night carried its own energy. But the Friday felt especially charged, that first-night release of anticipation transformed into genuine celebration. The Harrison's distinct character — part drawing room, part adventure — served the event perfectly, giving the evening the warmth of the intimate without losing any sense of occasion. It was, in the truest sense of the phrase, a sláinte moment: a toast to the sport, the city, the whiskey, and the people who showed up for all three.

If The 19th Hole caught your imagination, it's worth knowing that Belfast Whiskey Week 2025 offered several other championship-themed tastings — including Par 4: A Little Birdie for those who wanted to keep the golf-and-whiskey spirit going, and the endlessly dramatic WHISK(E)Y WARS: Tragedy. Treachery. The Perfect Single Malt. for those who preferred their drams with a side of competition. The full programme had range, but The 19th Hole was, for many, the round that ended the day on the highest possible note.
