Whiskey Lunch: Three Plates, Three Drams with Ó Catháin — Tuesday 28 July

Whiskey Lunch: Three Plates, Three Drams

The Morning Star whiskey lunch returns — and Tuesday’s drams carry one of the oldest names in Ulster.

The Morning Star has been feeding Belfast from its perch above Pottinger’s Entry since the 1800s — a proper Victorian pub up a cobbled entry off Ann Street, with a kitchen that takes Ulster produce every bit as seriously as its whiskey shelf. For Belfast Whiskey Week it sets the table for our favourite lunchtime ritual: three small plates from that kitchen, each one matched to a dram.

Tuesday belongs to Ó Catháin Irish Whiskey, named for the Ó Catháin clan — the old warrior kin of Ulster — and distilled in the north of Ireland. Smooth, honeyed and quietly serious, it’s a whiskey with dúchas in the name and the glass. Three pours across three plates, with the stories to go with them.
