There is something quietly defiant about the Dublin Liberties — a district that wore its smoky, industrial duchas like a badge of honour long before craft whiskey made it fashionable again. Session 27 of Belfast Whiskey Week 2021 brought that same spirit to the fore in a six-sample Showcase held on 29th July, inviting whiskey lovers from Belfast to Brisbane to pull up a chair and pour their way through one of Irish whiskey's most characterful new voices.

About This Event

This tasting includes 6 x 50ml Samples and will take place on the 29th @ 12:00.

For those in the USA, Australia, Sweden, Europe, the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland, you will be able to save on delivery costs by having your package to sent to a localised depot for collection. You will be charged a small fee upon collection, but the cost will be much cheaper than having packs delivered to individual addresses. If you would like to avail of this option, please make a note in the Special Instructions box, and we will contact you at a later date to arrange this and refund your delivery charges.

Looking Back

BWW 2021 was, of course, a festival shaped by circumstance as much as ambition — a year when the uisce beatha had to travel to the people rather than the other way around. The Dublin Liberties Showcase leaned into that reality with grace. Six 50ml samples arrived carefully packed, ready to be opened in living rooms, back gardens, and home offices across Ireland, the UK, Europe, Australia, and North America. That geographic spread would once have seemed extraordinary; by July 2021 it had become a quiet kind of magic in its own right.

The Dublin Liberties Distillery takes its name and its identity from one of Dublin's oldest working-class neighbourhoods — a tír steeped in tanning yards, silk weavers, and, crucially, the roar of whiskey distilleries that once made the area famous the world over. The brand wears that heritage with purpose, producing richly finished Irish whiskeys that nod to the area's history without becoming a museum piece. Six expressions across a single sitting gave attendees a proper arc through what the distillery does best: depth, texture, and a willingness to let the cask do its work.

Showcase sessions at BWW have always occupied a particular sweet spot — more exploratory than an Introduction, less forensic than a MasterClass. This one rewarded that balance. Participants had the space to linger, compare, and return to drams they'd initially passed over. For those newer to Irish whiskey, it was a generous entry point; for seasoned palates, the breadth of the lineup offered genuine points of discovery. It sat well in a programme that also included deeper dives elsewhere — if the Dublin Liberties session whetted your appetite for structured exploration, sessions like the Sexton Deconstruction Showcase or the rigorous Bushmills Causeway Collection MasterClass were there to take you further.

The logistics behind the 2021 festival deserve a word too. The option to route packages through localised depots — in the USA, Australia, Sweden, across Europe, and both jurisdictions on this island — was no small undertaking, and it reflected BWW's commitment to making the festival genuinely accessible rather than theoretically global. Sláinte to everyone who navigated a collection point that July morning with a box of samples under their arm.

Looking back, Session 27 stands as a fine example of what the Showcase format does well: it introduced a distillery with real seanchas behind it to an audience that spanned continents, and it did so with warmth and without fuss. The Dublin Liberties is a brand that rewards attention, and this session gave people exactly the time and the pours to give it that.
